It is more than 7 years since I first entered the proxy niche and tried to make money with this business. Proxy is an amazing niche and can be profitable but as any kind of niche you will need to invest some money and more important time and dedication.
If you are looking a way to create a passive income from the internet and you have decided to invest some of your time, continue reading. For all the rest, I would suggest to pick up a different niche.
In this article we will talk about the proxy business out of the box.
We will analyze the proxy market, see how we can monetize the traffic that our proxies get and talk about the marketing tactics / strategy that will help us get more visitors.
Why proxies are used?

Before you decide to get into the proxy world it is very important to understand the market.
Identify your potential visitors, what are they looking for, where are they from and how you shall focus on them.
You shall know that one of the most important reasons why people are searching to find and use fresh proxy sites is because they want to “unlock” a website, like facebook or twitter. They are trying to bypass web filters that block them from accessing websites.
The market is divided in sub markets based on the country and on second stage on niche and source. Does it sound complicated? Do not be afraid, actually it is easier than it sounds.

Consider that you are located in US, you are a college student and decided to login on your Facebook account from your college’s library. There is high chance (not to say 100%) that you will end up in a very common “Access Denied” message.

Be creative, combine different countries with niches and sub-niches and you will never run out of visitors!
Most people believe that all you need to do is set up a proxy network of 20-40 proxies full of advertisements and pop ups, get visits and will make hundreds of $ every month.
So what they do? They create one proxy, duplicate it a couple of dozen times, stuff it with advertisements and start spamming all over the place.
Is that going to work?
Yes, they get a couple of hundreds of visitors for a couple of days that if lucky will generate $5- $10. That is not going to last for long. Eventually after some days the traffic will progressively go down to just a couple of visits every day.

Whether you love it or hate it Google is going to help here with that. The first and most profitable source of income for all the proxy webmasters is Google adsense. It will generate more than 60-70% of your proxy revenue.
How?
Google has gives you the opportunity to display advertisements on your site and get paid every time someone clicks on them – CPC ( cost per click ). If you don’t have an account already I would suggest you to apply for one, you will need it.
Not by any means you shall not over stuff your proxy with adsense advertisements. You shall pay attention on their TOS. There is a maximum number of advertisements that you can use per type.
Important: you shall NOT put their advertisements on the proxify pages!
The rest of your revenue will come from the proxify pages. Every visitor can generate thousands of visits per session. Those pageviews can be monetize with CPM ( cost per thousand views ), CPA ( cost per action ) advertisements, pop ups, even pop unders, interstitial, affiliates. The majority of the revenue from the proxify pages will come from CPM. There are advertising networks that accept proxy sites and you can put their banners in your proxify page.
How and where can i advertise my proxy?

Now that you decided where to focus in and how you can make money from your proxies it is time to learn how to drive traffic to them. Before the traffic comes the marketing, the advertising or in other words the promotion.
It is a global belief the in order to make money you must invest money.
Yes, that is true and applies in proxy business too but it can also be free.
You do not need to put money in advertising from the first day if you don’t want to. You can try and get traffic for free and invest your adsense earnings later. There are several ways to promote your proxy site.
A good source of traffic is the so called “Proxy list” or “Proxy top site list”. You can submit your proxy sites to them, some give you the option to choose in which category you want your site to show. There are a lot sites like that and if you submit your proxy to all of them you can get easily a couple of hundreds visit for some days.
There are two negatives about those sites though. The more new proxy sites are added into their database the lower in the list your proxy will show and less traffic will eventually land to it. Another thing is that they require you put a backlink on your site which will point back to them. The more lists you submit your proxy, the more backlinks you will have on your proxy. That will make it look kind of spammy to visitors but to Google too, so don’t expect too much of organic traffic since you will not rank that high in the search result page.
If on the other hand you want and can afford to put some bucks in advertising then you can select a premium listing on one of those proxy lists which will keep your proxy site up on the top highlighted for a month (depends from the plan you select and where you will advertise one).
There are also those so called “proxy email blast” services that will send your proxy url in an email to thousands of subscribers. The traffic that you will get is remarkable but unfortunately only last for a day or two.
On the other hand there is ProxyNoid that combines all those promotional activities and even more like: proxy lists, proxy email lasts, proxy blogs, social networks. There are 4 different advertising packages to choose from: free, bronze, silver, gold.
As an answer to this article’s title I would say Yes. It is still possible to create and have a passive income from proxy sites.
